2023 Activities

Educational

  • Diploma in “New Diplomacies”. Collaborating with the Faculty of Higher Studies Acatlán at UNAM, this postgraduate diploma in science diplomacy was designed and taught by Drs. Parsifal Islas and Yudy Tibaduiza in the 2023-2 semester.
  • Binational Learning Classroom Mexico-Colombia: “Biodiversity and Science Diplomacy”. In partnership with the University of Antioquia, this initiative provided an overview of environmental degradation and biodiversity loss through science diplomacy, with significant participation from Latin American scholars and diplomats.
  • Learning Classroom: Science for Peace. A collaborative effort to explore how science and technology contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable world, involving multiple institutions from Mexico and Colombia.
  • Elective Course “Critical Introduction to Science Diplomacy”. A new course approved by the Faculty of Sciences at UNAM, to be offered starting the 2024-1 semester.
  • Permanent, Virtual, and International Seminar on Sustainable Development. Coordinated by Dr. Yudy Tibaduiza and Dr. Nayda Arias, this seminar has featured 14 sessions on women scientists’ contributions to sustainable development, broadcast live and recorded for later viewing.

  • Audiovisual Documentaries of the “Territorios del Saber” Initiative
    • “Instituto Médico Nacional: A Palace of Science in Mexico”
    • “The Treasures of the UNAM Institute of Biology”
    • “Metztitlán: Land of Giants”
  • Film Cycle “Gaia: The Last Refuge”. In collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Chair and FICUNAM, this film cycle explored ecological consciousness and responsibilities towards nature.
  • International Day of Light 2023. Co-organized with the theme “Microscopy and Biodiversity,” featuring lectures on the importance of microscopy in understanding biodiversity.
